Hysterectomy

What is Hysterectomy?
Hysterectomy is the surgical removal of the uterus. The doctor cannot always predict the condition of the fallopian tubes or the ovaries before the surgery. If during the procedure there is evidence that these organs are also affected by the disease, they can be removed together with the uterus.

When is hysterectomy applicable?
- endometrial cancer
- cervix cancer or precancerous condition
- postpartum complications
- severe endometriosis
- uterine prolapse
- abnormal uterine bleeding

How do we perform it?
There are three approaches for this intervention: through a transverse or longitudinal cut in the abdomen, through an incision of the bottom of the vagina, or laparoscopic. The kind of anesthesia depends on the type of surgery.

What is the minimum hospital stay?
Two days for laparoscopy, and five days for the other types of hysteroscopy

What is the recovery period?
After hysteroscopy the woman cannot become pregnant, there is no more menstruation if there were any before the surgery. The patient feels pain in the operated area (abdominal wall, pelvic tissues) in the first hours after the surgery. One month after the surgery tho woman must avoid physical exercises and sexual contacts. Usually three months after the procedure the patient can return to her usual life habits.
