Cervical conization

What is a cervical conization?
The cervical conization is a surgical procedure for removing a cone-shaped part from the cervix. The long lower part of the cone forms a circle around the cervical canal, and the upper part is approximately at the level of the middle of the channel.

How do we perform it?
We perform the conization under spinal anesthesia and through the vagina. The doctor cut the cone-shaped part of the cervix with a scalpel or with an electrosurgery instrument, and then the tissue goes for a histology testing.

When is it applied?
The cervical conization is applied in cases of pathology results from colposcopy with biopsy and histology testing, or pathology results after ablation in the cervix and histology testing.

What is the minimum hospital stay?
Two days

What are the contraindications for performing conization?
pregnancy

What is the recovery period?
The recovery after cervical conization is different for every patient, but it is administered by the medical specialist and depends on the histology testing result.
